Eco Search

Eco Search is a browser extension, and you can install it if you have Google Chrome on your computer. The extension is, supposedly, offered by “uepselon” via the Chrome web store. Did you download the add-on from chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/eco-search/dglpocfnfjbehlapidkpceibekhjnabd? If you have, you were being risky. This source does not offer any information about the developer of the extension, and the only things that you are introduced to are the installer button and the extension’s description. According to it, the add-on can change the New Tab page and the default search provider to ensure that you “get optimized search suggestions.” Although this might sound intriguing, it tells you nothing. At the time of research, the extension had no reviews or ratings either, and that is pretty suspicious. From what our research team has gathered, the extension does not work in a malicious manner, but if you downloaded it, you could be at risk. If you want to understand the situation better, and if you want to remove Eco Search, we suggest that you continue reading.

Since Eco Search does not have an official download website or a website that would introduce its developer, trusting this search tool is incredibly risky. You cannot access and review privacy policies that support the PUP (potentially unwanted program), and that means that you cannot fully understand how it works. Does it use information-tracking tools, such as HTTP cookies or web beacons? If it does, what kind of information does it record? Is this information shared with third parties you cannot trust? How is this information used? Does the company protect your data? These questions are very important, but unfortunately, you cannot get answers to them, and that is something that you cannot ignore. In fact, this should be something that deters you from downloading Eco Search in the first place. Speaking of downloading, did you acquire the PUP from the Chrome web store? Perhaps, it was introduced to you via an unfamiliar bundled downloader along with other extensions or applications? If that is the case, you need to inspect your system immediately because you do not want to miss your opportunity to delete malware.

According to our research team, Eco Search could be introduced to Chrome users via redirects. This is already a problem. Why are you being redirected to random installers? Perhaps you are visiting unreliable websites? Maybe you have responsible adware or other PUPs already active on your system? A trusted malware scanner will help you figure that out. All in all, once Eco Search is installed, it takes over the default search provider and the New Tab page, and you might have used the search service already. Our research team informs that Eco Search shows Bing Search results that are not modified. This is good news in a sense because there are tons of PUPs (e.g., Download Office Tools or Access Gov Docs) that modify search results and offer completely unreliable services. That being said, if you want to use Bing Search, you can do that without installing any additional extensions. This is the main reason the discussed extension is classified as a PUP and also a good reason to delete it from Google Chrome.

Since Eco Search does not offer anything that exclusive and useful, and since it seems that it cannot be fully trusted, you should consider deleting this potentially unwanted program. Have you already made up your mind? Follow the instructions below if you want to delete Eco Search manually, and do not forget to clear Chrome browsing data to ensure that PUP-associated cookies are not left active. Alternatively, install an anti-malware tool that can delete the extension automatically. This is the best option if you have other threats to worry about and if you are worried that you could be tricked into letting in much more dangerous threats in the future. This is a legitimate worry, and you should not miss your opportunity to secure your browsers and the operating system before it is too late.
