Convert-myfiles.link

Convert-myfiles.link is a page promoted by the Convert My Files browser extension. Researchers have classified it as a browser hijacker because users find this page set on their Google Chrome browsers without their knowledge. We have checked both its official website (http://www.convert-myfiles.link/) and the Chrome Web Store (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/convert-my-files/clhkbldihegalmdahapgmhdfpdkbjghb), and, to our surprise, we have not found mentioned there that it changes browsers’ settings once installed. Consequently, we are not surprised at all that users are not happy about the appearance of the new page on their browsers. To be more specific, Convert My Files changes homepages and New Tab URLs, which means that you will see Convert-myfiles.link loading every time the web browser is opened until the browser extension associated with it is completely removed. Luckily, it is not like those stubborn infections – you will delete it yourself manually quite easily.

The appearance of Convert-myfiles.link on your Google Chrome is, without a doubt, a result of the installation of Convert My Files, the browser extension promoted as a “handy, easy to use PDF converter.” Users install it expecting that they could convert their files easily, but often get disappointed with it, and we know why. As has been observed, Convert My Files only sets a new page on users’ Google Chrome browsers and does not do anything else. Convert-myfiles.link looks like a legitimate search provider with some quick-access buttons at the top opening online converters and a search box in the middle, but we do not think that it is a very good idea to keep it, especially if it has been set on your web browser without your knowledge. First, you can access all these third-party services quickly by simply bookmarking their websites. Second, we have some doubts about the reliability of the promoted search tool. Even though it is powered by Yahoo, it might still display some sponsored search results to you. They all lead straight to other websites, which are, unfortunately, not all necessarily reliable. On top of that, if you keep this page set and use the search box it contains to find the information on the web, you will provide some information about your computer, habits, and interests to the author of Convert My Files because it is clearly written in its Privacy Policy document that it “may collect non-personal and technical information.” This does not sound like anything dangerous, but it is still not the best idea to let the browser hijacker track you. If you let it do this, it might, eventually, share the collected data with third parties.

If you have found Convert-myfiles.link set on your Google Chrome browser and you can locate the browser extension with the clhkbldihegalmdahapgmhdfpdkbjghb ID next to other active add-ons, there is no doubt that Convert My Files is the one responsible for altering your browser’s settings. You could have downloaded it from its official website or the Chrome Web Store, or it has been installed on your computer without your knowledge. Browser extensions that act like browser hijackers are often distributed in software bundles. In other words, they travel together with other applications, usually free software. Of course, we do not say that they cannot be promoted differently, so it is very important not to leave the system unprotected if you do not want to find your browser’s settings altered again. The easiest way to protect the system against malicious applications is to enable security software on the system. Keep in mind that the installation of security software does not allow you to become one of those careless users that download tons of software from random websites, click on all links and buttons they see, and open spam email attachments out of curiosity.

You do not need to be an expert in undesirable software removal to remove Convert-myfiles.link from your web browser because it will no longer be there if you simply disable the Convert My Files browser extension. If you follow our step-by-step instructions, it will not be a difficult job; however, if they do not help you much, you can remove the suspicious add-on and thus get rid of the page set automatically. That is, you can scan your system with an antimalware scanner instead of trying to erase it in a manual way.
