MessengerPC

MessengerPC is a new program that has ended up in our cross-hairs for being suspicious. This questionable program offers desktop access to your Facebook Messenger; however, it does not seem to have any ties with Facebook at all. For us, this simple fact would be enough to doubt its reliability but it gets worse. We did not find any information about the creators or legal documents (EULA and Privacy Policy), either. This is rather suspicious and we do not advise you to ever use such a program because you simply cannot know what it may do on your system, how it may spy on you, and even share collected data with third parties. Long story short, we have categorized this software as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) since we did not find real malicious activities. Still, we advise you to remove MessengerPC from your computer because we would not trust it enough to keep it on board and risk potential system security issues.

We have found that this PUP does not even have an official website where you could find information about its creators or the software itself. Now, this is rather suspicious again, another sign that you should not trust this application. As a matter of fact, once you install this PUP, it does connect to its remote server, which is cpaserver.herokuapp.com, which can also mean that it was actually created by a company called Herokuapp. Of course, for some reason, it is not made public knowledge and the creators want to stay anonymous. However, if you cannot download this PUP from an official or vendor's site, how can it still be on your system? If you wonder how, it may be time for you to delete MessengerPC because it will not get any more reliable with the coming paragraphs.

It seems that this PUP is promoted by questionable websites, where you are offered to install it. This can happen when you "accidentally" land on an unfamiliar page, let us say, after clicking on an unreliable third-party ad on a suspicious website. But as you see the name of this software, you may think that it is a great idea to have Facebook Messenger available from your desktop, so you may click to install. We do not advise you to ever install a tool or an application offered in this questionable way or by pop-up windows. Always use official websites to download or install software or updates. Unfortunately, a click on the wrong content can also result in your downloading a full bundle of PUPs and malware infections. That would surely cause multiple system security issues for you. Keep in mind, too, that you can always infect your system with more threats if it is already infected with malware, such as adware programs, Trojans, and browser hijackers. This is why we advise you to delete MessengerPC and then, use a reliable online malware scanner to identify all possible threats on your system.

This PUP can start up automatically every time you log in to your Windows account. Its application window embeds the login screen to Facebook Messenger. However, we are here to warn you that you may not find any information about the authors or how this PUP handles privacy issues. Since this program does not seem to reveal any legal documents, and you need to enter your login details to your Messenger account, you cannot know what happens to your sensitive information. What if cyber crooks can get hold of it? We do not claim that this is a malicious program, this is why we call it a PUP; however, when such important legal documents as the EULA and the Privacy Policy are not shared with the user, it certainly raises some questions of reliability. Furthermore, we found that this PUP runs a Javascript file (Node.js) in the background, which can connect to a remote server and do certain operations, which you are not notified about. All in all, we believe that it is best for you to remove MessengerPC from your computer.

Fortunately, it is not too difficult to eliminate this program from your system. All you need to do is find its uninstaller in the list of installed programs via Control Panel and execute it. Please follow our guide below this article if you would like to do this manually. Please remember that this may only be the first step towards a clean system and restored security. Therefore, if you do not have the necessary skills to detect and remove all possible threats on your system, we suggest that you use a trustworthy anti-malware program like SpyHunter.
