According to this statement, the extension can use cookies, pixels, web beacons, and similar “technologies” to record information. Some of these “technologies” might belong to unknown third parties responsible for advertising. That is one of the reasons users choose to delete this extension from their browsers. If the extension is installed, the New Tab page is switched to movies-tab.com, and a Privacy Policy becomes available; although through a different link. This is odd behavior.

When Movies Tab Plus is installed, the New Tab page is modified, and if the New Tab page is your homepage, you will see the suspicious movies-tab.com every time you launch the browser. This page displays a bunch of links to movie-related sites, and they are likely to be harmless, but we cannot say the same about the search tool. The “Search” field represents a search engine that shows advertisements. Depending on the search keywords you enter, you are likely to see advertisements before you see normal search results. Of course, this is more likely to happen if you enter keywords not related to movies, but you definitely want to think if a search tool that shows ads is worth keeping around. Also, as mentioned before, the creator of this PUP works with undisclosed parties, and it is known that they can track your activity to showcase more attractive ads. That is not necessarily a great thing because malicious advertisers exist, and they use information to trick users. Whether or not that is the risk you would face when using Movies Tab Plus, it is a real risk, and that is why you should consider removing this PUP.

Movies Tab Plus Removal

1. Launch Windows Explorer by tapping Win+E keys on the keyboard.
2. Enter %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\ into the bar at the top, or, if you are on Windows XP, enter %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\.
3. Open the {profile name} folder, or, if one does not exist, open the Default folder.
4. Next, open the Extensions folder.
5. Right-click and Delete the item called eoipicehnkjpalckbmmdiodjpallceli.
6. Go back to the {profile name}/Default folder and then open the Sync Extension Settings folder.
7. Repeat step 5 to eliminate the traces of the PUP.
8. Go back to the {profile name}/Default folder and then open the Local Storage folder.
9. Right-click and Delete these two files:
   • chrome-extension_eoipicehnkjpalckbmmdiodjpallceli_0.localstorage
   • chrome-extension_eoipicehnkjpalckbmmdiodjpallceli_0.localstorage-journal
10. Go back to the {profile name}/Default folder and then Delete these two files:
    • Preferences
    • Secure Preferences
11. Empty Recycle Bin and scan your PC for any leftovers that might require removal.
