Chrome Settings ButtonChrome Settings Button is a simple browser extension for Google Chrome that adds a button to the homepage that allows you to enter Chrome’s settings with a click of a button, never mind that going to the settings via the settings menu requires two clicks. This program is just laughable as it is utterly pointless. We have classified it as a potentially unwanted program and suggest you remove it from your PC as soon as the opportunity arises. We have also found that this program can collect information about you to be used for advertising purposes or shared with third-party entities that will most likely use that information for marketing and promotional purposes as well. This program is not malicious by any means but is rather useless, and its information collection practices raise more questions. Apparently, Chrome Settings Button is similar to Two Click Search, but that extension offers a different yet similarly gimmicky service. Like its counterpart, it Chrome Settings Button does not have information on its developer and publisher, but unlike its counterpart, it does have a privacy policy and end user license agreement. The EULA states that this extension was licensed by Chromesettingsbutton.info — the website that hosts this program’s download and is also its promotional website. The second known distribution channel is the Chrome Web Store that says that this extension has more than 5,000 users which is thankfully not a huge number. Last but not least, the third known distribution channel which is probably the most elusive is software bundles. We have received information that Chrome Settings Button comes bundled with malicious software installers featured on freeware websites that install this extension as a bonus program, a bonus that you do not need. The installers can be set to install this extension automatically, but they can also allow you to deselect its installation, so they do not force it on you. Nevertheless, you should decline the offer to install it for reasons we are going to discus below. On the face of it, Chrome Settings Button is just a simple browser extension that adds a one-click button on the homepage for quick access to the settings menu. However, it can be argued that this extension is useless because accessing the settings menu was not a problem in the first place. Therefore, we believe that this feature is nothing more but a gimmick. Nevertheless, this program must have some sort of purpose and we believe that it might have something to do with information collection. It is possible that this program can obtain technical information such as your browser type, operating system type, Internet Service Provider, Internet Protocol address, as well as your approximate geographical location. We believe that this information can be used to personalize ads, but this program did not show any when we tested it. Nevertheless, the privacy policy clearly states that “We use the information that you provide for such purposes as responding to your requests, customizing and improving our services, delivering targeted content and advertisements that may be of interest to you, and communicating with you. Nevertheless, it is possible that this program’s owners can share this information with third-parties. However, its privacy policy states that “We do not sell your personal information to third parties” but you can never know for sure. As you can see, Chrome Settings Button is not a malicious application, but it can collect information about you and present you with services that include featuring commercial advertisements. Given the shady origins of this program, you may not want to see any of its promotions as they can be unreliable. Removing Chrome Settings Button is a proposition you should consider because it offers nothing of value to your browsing experience. We have made a guide on how to delete this extension from Chrome that is located below. How to delete this extension
