ShiftVideos

ShiftVideos is a newly released ad-supported application that spells trouble for those unfortunate enough to get it. So if you have installed this program accidentally, then we recommend that you remove it as fast as possible. Nevertheless, in this article, we will not only provide you with the means to uninstall it, but we will also talk about its distribution methods and functionality because some people might think that this program is harmless. Well, rest assured that it is not safe. It is a program that is prone to promote potentially malicious content because its developers get paid to do so. Therefore, without further ado, let us jump right into the facts.

We have found that this application is promoted on its dedicated website at Shiftvideos.com. Note that this site is considered dangerous and some web browsers may block all connections to it. Nevertheless, this website features this program’s standalone download, but that is not the only dissemination method its developers use. If you happen to get it from this site, then you have probably noticed that it claims to download videos. There is no information about its functionality other than that the download is easy and free. So there is no specific information regarding its functions and it is easy to see that this function is non-existent and used as bait.

In addition to this distribution method, we have also found that it is distributed via adware ads and browser hijacker promotions that are offered in the search results. Furthermore, it may come bundled with various adware-type applications, browser hijackers, and potentially unwanted programs. The list of software it may come with includes: System Healer, Search Know, and Sweet-page.com, among other applications. So it seems that this malware has a wide variety of dissemination techniques and it may become a problem if its popularity increases. Therefore, it is important to understand the dangers this application poses, and thus, we want to provide you with information about how this application works.

Once you install ShiftVideo and run it, it will open a window that will redirect to Musicrule.com/choose.php. This website contains two promotional links. These links redirect to Last.fm/music/+free-music-downloads and Scorebig.com/concert-tickets/grooveshark?a=grooveshark. However without going into too much detail, we want to clarify that these two websites have little to do with videos, so ShiftVideos is a misleading name.

In addition to opening its graphical user interface window with featured ads, this program will occasionally open browser windows (Internet Explorer windows to be exact) that redirect to various promotional websites. One of them is https://www.paidsurveyupdate.com/subscribe?utm_source=Rextopia&utm_medium=Banner&utm_campaign=CPA&s1=16618&s2=59342062&utm_campaign=16618, which asks you to provide personal details about yourself to subscribe to some shady survey. We are not sure what this particular website is all about, but it has some transparency issues. Furthermore, ShiftVideos might redirect to http://interest4.valuedinformation.com/numbers/?t=5&c1=RDBMS&u=&im=, a website that contains many links that change constantly. Thus, there is no way of knowing when this site will promote some scam website. However, this adware might redirect to a lot of different sites as they are subject to the region where the user is located.

Even though ShiftVideos may promote malicious content, its own files, however, are not malicious. All of this program’s files are put in the C:\Program Files\ShiftVideos directory. It has a functional uninstaller that should remove everything without leaving junk files. Of course, like most programs, ShiftVideos also has several registry keys attributed to it. In total it has three registry keys that include: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DOMStorage\www.shiftvideos.com, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DOMStorage\shiftvideos.com and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{CEB2806C-9AC9-4C7F-9039-04748E1294A1}_is1. Like this program’s files, these registry keys should be deleted after running the uninstaller. However, if that is not the case, then we suggest using an antimalware program, since tampering with the registry manually is never recommended.

However, from the information provided in this article, it is evident that there is something very wrong about ShiftVideos. It is distributed on a malicious website, and its promoted content comes from unknown sources that may promote dangerous software and scam sites. Above all, this program is just plain annoying and useless, so the sooner you remove it, the sooner you will be able to enjoy ad-free browsing.
