Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

VIDKit

You are probably reading this description because you have VIDKit on your computer and you want to know how to get rid of this program. The application in question is a potentially unwanted program that may be installed on your computer without your permission. VIDKit is not a direct computer security threat, but when a program enters your system silently, it is obvious that you should not tolerate it. Please scroll down to the bottom of this description for the manual removal instructions. Also, please check out the list of installed programs for other potential threats because VIDKit usually comes in software packages.

More information on VIDKit can be found at vidpot.tv, where you will find an online sharing community. It is a forum that informs you about the VIDKit survival kit. The main forum post about this application says that the media player package includes “everything you need to play the movies you download.” It has a minimal and simple video player and a codec pack that encompasses almost all of the most commonly used codecs out there. The post also says that after decryption the player supports .avi, .mkv, .mp4, .mpeg, .flv, .mp3, and many other formats. Thus, it tries to make you think that VIDKit is one of the best media players out there.

On the other hand, our research shows that VIDKit is a direct clone of SMPlayer and that it comes together with the DNS Keeper adware application. Where does the adware program come from? You probably downloaded it yourself from some file sharing website. Or it might have slithered into your system when you clicked a random pop-up on an adware website. The bottom line is that the application employs suspicious distribution methods, and it does not provide you with any overtly useful function. Therefore, it would not be too far-fetched to say that the best decision in this situation would be to remove VIDKit permanently.

Some users may argue that VIDKit is a useful video player that can play various formats. However, please remember that the application did not ask for your permission to be installed on your PC. What’s more, it may connect to the Internet behind your back to download configuration data. Since it is an open source application, it can easily be exploited by malevolent third parties for their purposes. In short, it is not safe to keep VIDKit on your system.

Please open the Control Panel and remove VIDKit manually. The uninstaller for this application is called VIDPot.tv Survival Kit version 1. Take note of the installation data of this application, and then check to see if you have more unfamiliar programs installed on the same day. If so, be sure to remove the other unnecessary applications.

If you are not sure of your skills, or you cannot determine whether a program in question is a potential threat, run a full system scan with the SpyHunter free scanner.
