MoodTube

MoodTube is one annoying and above all deceptive program. Its developers trick people into downloading it but fail to deliver a working product, so you might want to remove this software. This application is supposed to darken the background and make watching videos more immersive and free of distractions. The idea behind this application is interesting. However, it is just a façade. We have tested this application and found that it does not work. It only displays unasked-for commercial advertisements of questionable reliability, because they are largely supplied by third-party advertisers. We want to get the word out to everybody that MoodTube is a malicious application that they should avoid if possible and delete it if it finds its way on their machines.

There are a couple of things to discuss before moving on to the removal part. The first one is how this application works and what the disadvantages of having it are. The second one is where this program comes from and its distribution methods. So alet us begin. So MoodTube is unable to make the page background darker like its misleading advertising campaign claims. It has been programmed, however, for the single purpose of displaying commercial ads that generate revenue for its developers. This program can display a lot of advertisements that come in various shapes and sizes. While testing it we have encountered pop-ups, coupons, in-text, and banners, but it may display other kinds of ads as well. Now, MoodTube’s ads may appear legitimate and most of them are harmless, but annoying nonetheless. However, based on experience with dealing with its clones, it is reasonable to think that some of its ads can promote links to unreliable websites that can get your computer infected with malware. The possibility of this happening is rather slim, but cannot be ruled out.

MoodTube has several clone applications that either pose as “background dimmers” or provide some other function. Theater Mode, Email Tracker, and WebWatch are all the same application just with a different face. They all have promotional download websites, and in the case of MoodTube it is located at Moodtubeapp.com. Note that Firefox will block access to this website because it considers it malicious and with good reason. In any case, we think that this application can also come bundled with malicious software and featured on shady freeware websites. We have also received reports that this program can be downloaded from other websites in a standalone installer, but we have yet to find any samples. This application has been developed by an elusive software developer that has successfully been covering its tracks for the past year. We do not know the name of this company, but its products are not difficult to link. We will elaborate more on this in future articles once more information is available.

So, as you can see, MoodTube is a fake application. It does not perform the tasks its developers claim it can. It just serves as a vehicle to deliver ads on your browser window. Since the ads are supplied by constantly changing third parties, it should not be trusted. So we suggest that you remove this program in a timely manner, because it can pose a threat even if it is a minor one.

How to remove MoodTube from Windows

Windows 10

1. Right-click on the Windows Start menu.
2. Go to Programs and Features.
3. Find MoodTube and right-click on it.
4. Click the Uninstall button.

Windows 8 and 8.1

1. Tap the Win+R.
2. Type Control Panel in the dialog box and Click OK.
3. Select Uninstall a program.
4. Find the program and click the Uninstall button.

Windows 7 and Vista

1. Click Start.
2. Go to Control Panel.
3. Click Uninstall a program.
4. Find the undesirable program and click the Uninstall button.

Windows XP

1. Click Start.
2. Go to Control Panel.
3. Click Add or Remove Programs.
4. Find MoodTube and click the Remove button.
