ChthonicChthonic, also known as Trojan-Banker.Win32.Chthotic, is a new Trojan horse that has targeted banking systems and has already affected over 150 different banks in 15 countries. The Chthonic Trojan is a variant of the Trojan horse ZeuS, and the fact that a new variant has been released suggests that ZeuS is actively evolving. The Chthonic Trojan has targeted mainly financial institutions in the UK, the US, Spain, Russian, Italy, and Japan. It is crucial to remove Chthonic from the computer as soon as possible because the damage inflicted by this malware threat is dramatic. Chthonic gets onto a computer after the victim opens an attachment containing a RTF document, which is used to exploit the CVE-2014-1761 vulnerability in Microsoft products. Once the Chthonic Trojan gets installed, it inserts its malicious code into bank web pages, which enables the attackers to collect personal information about the victim. Information collected includes PIN codes, one-time passwords, phone numbers, and other login information used by the victim. With the help of Chthonic, the attackers can also make online money transactions using the victim’s account, which was done in one bank in Japan. Due to the fact that Chthonic creates a fake phishing web page that looks identical to the original bank web page, a lot of computer users may not suspect that they are being monitored. It is crucial to keep the system protected against different types of malware so that malware threats such as ZeuS and Chthonic can be prevented. If you suspect that you are being monitored, you should take action to get the system examined. If any malicious files or programs are detected, they should be removed immediately. You should not delay removing Chthonic because this threat is also capable of recording keystrokes. Moreover, if a web camera and a microphone are plugged in the computer, Chthonic records video and sound. So, if you want to be sure that you are safe on the Internet, do not wait any longer but take action to remove it from the PC. Our advice is to implement SpyHunter, which is programmed to detect and remove Chthonic from the PC. The malicious threat is already included in the detection bases of certain security programs and is detected as Trojan.Crypt.NKN, PWS:Win32/Zbot.gen!VM, Trojan.Win32.BankerAqR, etc. Our recommended security tool is capable to fight off Trojan horses, browser hijackers, adware, rootkits, fake anti-virus programs, and many other threats, so, if you want to be secure on the Internet, do not wait but take action right now. |
