HDVidCodec

HDVidCodec is an adware application which functions like a browser plugin. It is not a dangerous computer infection, but you should not keep it on your computer as HDVidCodec is considered a potentially unwanted program. It supports third party advertisements and as a result, it may expose you to a potential computer threats that might infect your system and even steal your money. Therefore, if you do not find the application useful, you should remove HDVidCodec from your computer, because that would be one of the best ways to ensure that you avoid any potential malware threats.

This browser plugin can get installed on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox web browsers. There are several ways to download the application, and depending on the source, the name of the plugin may differ. For example, it is possible to download it at hdvidcodec.com/download.pho, hd-plugin.com, crossrider/com/apps/45971/install_page websites, but HDVidCodec might also come bundled with downloaders, or the installation wizard might be hiding behind commercial advertisements that offer to download upgraded codec for your video player. The promotion via commercial advertisements might manifest itself as follows:

Please install HD player to continue (Required)

  • Watch HD movies online

  • HD video performance with hardware acceleration of video

  • Support for full screen mode with multiple monitors

  • Bug fixes and security enhancements

Thus, if you have HDvid codec pack, HDvid Plugin, HDvid Codec V1, HDvid Codec V6.0 installed on your computer, these are all just variations of the same plugin that you should be very careful about in the first place. The problem is that aside from being distributed bundled with freeware, HDVidCodec can also install additional applications onto your computer itself. For example, if you look closely at its installation setup, you will notice that HDVidCodec offers you to “get free smileys, winks & games for your messenger & browser” by installing SweetIM onto your computer.

If you were to go through the setup automatically, you would install this additional application and SweetIM would be set as your default home page and search engine. Browser settings modification would only increase the possibility of you getting exposed to potential threats.

Constant pop-ups with links that lead to commercial third party websites are never 100%, and if HDVidCodec constantly delivers such advertisements you should seriously consider whether you want to keep the plugin on your computer.

Luckily, it is very easy to remove HDVidCodec manually, and you can accomplish that by following the manual removal instructions that we have provided below. Nevertheless, HDVidCodec might have arrived with a range of other potentially unwanted programs, so in order to determine whether any of these potential threats are on your PC, run a full system scan with SpyHunter free scanner. Should any unwanted programs be detected, acquire a licensed antimalware tool that will remove all the undesirable programs automatically, and your computer will be protected from malicious intruders.

I uninstalled it from my computer just fine, but was still having the adds pop up. I discovered that if I went into my browser extensions, somehow it had also been installed there and simply unchecked it- now I have no more problems with it. Hope this helps some of you!
