Browse for the Cause

Browse for the Cause is an application that copies its name from a legitimate charity add-on for Firefox called Browse for a Cause. Browse for the Cause is always presented as an application that allows you to donate part of the money you pay for online purchases to the charity. Once the program is installed, Browse for the Cause remains in your system tray bar and it says that you can always check how much money you have earned and donated for the charities. The program is not a computer virus, but it is categorizes as adware with browser hijacker features, because the default setup of the application installs a search engine, a toolbar and changes home page settings.

Some users might claim that Browse for the Cause changes their default home page settings without their consent, but this app prompts you about the oncoming changes when you install it. If a user chooses "Express Install" instead of the Custom Install, then you will have a Internet Turbo Toolbar install with your home page and default search engine changed to a website related to Browse for the Cause. The app is known to change home page to search.snap.do or DefaultTab's search page. Naturally, it is rather annoying to have your home page changed, even if you have agreed to it yourself. What is more, search.snap.do displays commercial advertisements below its search bar, and some of these ads might have links that lead to corrupted websites.

It is the main reason why users are advised to remove Browse for the Cause from their computers - the application might be quite of a nuisance instead of providing selected charity organizations with your money. Luckily, it seems that Browse for the Cause does not affect Google Chrome browser as of yet, so you will only need to restore your default settings on Internet Explorer and/or Mozilla Firefox.
