Disk DefragmenterAlthough most users are able to distinguish between fake system optimizers and defragmenters, rogue defragmenters like Disk Defragmenter make it that much more difficult thanks to its genuine looking UIs. In reality, Disk Defragmenter is nothing more than an empty shell, devoid of any error solving capabilities and only out to fleece consumers out of their hard earned money. Disk Defragmenter will not live up to any of its over embellished promises and will stop at nothing to succeed at its devious task, even causing permanent and irreversible damage to its victim’s PC. Disk Defragmenter makes use of established forms infection, using surreptitious browser hijacking websites and fake online malware scanners to root its furtive Trojans into PC owners’ systems. Once the Trojan infection roots itself, Disk Defragmenter will reveal its presence to the user via fake security notifications. These bogus security alerts were designed with the explicit purpose of further confusing and panicking the user, as well as for building trust in Disk Defragmenter. Quite obviously none of the following fake alerts generated by Disk Defragmenter should ever enjoy the user’s attention: "Critical Error! "Critical Error "Critical Error "Critical Error "Critical Error! "Critical Error "System Restore "Activation Reminder "Low Disk Space "Windows - No Disk As a further attack on the system, Disk Defragmenter will not allow the user to launch any executable on his system, and will block all Internet connections. This is done in an effort to prevent the user from downloading or running a program which is able to detect and remove Disk Defragmenter from the system. When the user tries to run any program on his PC, he will be subjected to any of the following fake security notifications: "Windows detected a hard drive problem. Or "Windows cannot find notepad. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." Or "Windows detected a hard drive problem. When the user closes the above fake notifications, Disk Defragmenter will present the user with the following alert which falsely claims to be able to fix the hard disk: "Fix Disk Should the user act on this call to action, Disk Defragmenter will emulate a system scan and report that something is wrong with the system by making use of the following fake security notification: "Windows Disk Diagnostics Do not fall for any of these fake security alerts, as it all forms a part of Disk Defragmenter’s attack on the system and its campaign to extort money out of you. In order to limit the damage posed to your PC, delete Disk Defragmenter at the earliest possible time. Do this by investing in a properly functioning and fully up to date security tool which will not only detect and erase Disk Defragmenter, but also provide future protection against similar rogues. |
